Resolution on Union Budget and the Youth Featured

The Union Budget, 2017 has completely failed to address serious challenges faced by the people in general and youth in particular. The 10th all India conference of DYFI is of the opinion that this year’s union budget, instead of providing relief to the common people, especially youth, reeling under the disastrous impact of demonetization, is going to make life more miserable for the masses. The finance minister’s boastful declaration that the ‘budget has the aim of energizing youth through education, skills and jobs’ is absolutely farcical.

The budget does not give any direction towards creation of jobs and is silent about massive jobless in the wake of demonetization. Moreover, the union government’s ongoing drive for disinvestment in PSUs will make the unemployment crisis worse. The proposals for central schemes like ‘SANKALP’ and ‘STRIVE’ will in no way address the core issues affecting the majority of youth in our country. It is not the lack of skills but the policy of privatization, lack of public investment and demonetization that aggravate the crisis of unemployment in India. The Union Budget, 2017 has completely failed to address serious challenges faced by the people in general and youth in particular. Informal economy dominates in our country and cash payment is the main form of wage payment which is seriously affected by the demonetization drive. Lakhs of youth employed in informal sector have become jobless in the last two months. Union budget of 2017 has not offered any hope to this growing section of jobless youth. Allotment to schemes under MGNREGA has also not got any substantial increase in this year’s budget. Therefore there is no possibility of creation of more jobs in the rural sector. Overall, the contractionary budget of 2017 is not at all going to alleviate the plight of the common people in the days to come. We demand substantial increase in public spending and investment in education and health sectors and creation of employment. DYFI calls upon the youth to protect against undermining their aspirations of a better life and expose the anti-people government at the centre.

    Many communities in the disease zones have inadequate sanitation that allow frequent trash piles and open sewers to serve as mosquito breeding and feeding grounds, according to the final outcome statement from the Aedes aegypti summit last month.

About us

DYFI was formed in Ludhiana on 3rd November 1980. Prior to formation, the leaders of KSYF of Kerala, Socialist Valibar organisation of Tamil Nadu, Nav Jawan Sabha of Punjab, DYF of West Bengal etc assembled in Delhi and gave shape to a Preparatory Committee. This committee conducted a conference in Ludhiana from 1st to 3rd November for the formation of DYFI. The constitution and programme of the new organisation was adopted in this conference.
