The Central Executive Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India Protests in the strongest possible words the heinous gang rape and assault of a 23-year-old para-medical student from Dehra Dun in the national capital on Sunday night in a private chartered bus. The decline in law and order situation in the city is deepening further day by day. The inadequate response of the Delhi Government requires united efforts by the entire youth community, human rights groups and concerned individuals to hold the government answerable for its inability to provide security to women in the state and bring the criminals to justice.
In the context of a highly orthodox society with deeply entrenched patriarchal values along with a rampant consumerist culture that objectifies women, there has been an alliance of reactionary forces that has worsened the status of women.
This is an especially discouraging development as women try to step out of their established parameters and seek education and employment outside the house.
In protest against increasing cases of sexual assault and crimes against women, the DYFI will observe protest campaigns throughout the country to mobilise public opinion against these attacks. The CEC of DYFI also demand the passage of the Bill pending with the government against sexual assault; accountability procedures and punishment to police officials guilty of delaying filing of FIR, medical examination; ensuring time-bound framework for rape cases through fast track courts.
The administration, the police and the hospitals have to be held accountable where they fail to provide care to the rape victims and appropriate action has to be taken against them. Rehabilitation measures are also urgently required.

About us
DYFI was formed in Ludhiana on 3rd November 1980. Prior to formation, the leaders of KSYF of Kerala, Socialist Valibar organisation of Tamil Nadu, Nav Jawan Sabha of Punjab, DYF of West Bengal etc assembled in Delhi and gave shape to a Preparatory Committee. This committee conducted a conference in Ludhiana from 1st to 3rd November for the formation of DYFI. The constitution and programme of the new organisation was adopted in this conference.
